Training & Workshops

The Benjamin Lay Fellowship offers college students a $2,000 stipend for a semester-long leadership training and internship program. Grounded in Quaker history and values, the Fellowship teaches core leadership principles while students work on self-directed projects related to peace and social concerns. The name is inspired by Benjamin Lay, an early local abolitionist who was known to many by his nickname, “the Quaker Comet.” The program has been made possible through a grant from the Shoemaker Fund. 

Darlyne and Sarah have been working with the Radnor Quaker Meeting since 2023 to support this program through thought partnership on the leadership curriculum, direct support of Fellows as they develop their projects, liaising with many local Quaker Meetings, and conducting outreach to raise awareness of the program. 

Applications are currently being accepted on a rolling basis from college students in the Greater Philadelphia Area.

CDA Coordinating partner the Nonprofit Executive Leadership Institute (NELI) at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Research (GSSWSR) offers a Nonprofit Executive certificate titled "Leading with Impact" from April - June 2026. The Social Justice Institute facilitated the fourth of ten sessions: "Building Impactful Internal Strategic Alliances: Sustaining Individuals and Their Organizations." The workshop introduced frameworks for understanding types of strategic alliances; how, when, and where to form them; types of power; and dialogue.
